The Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health is seeking a Public Health Policy & Research Intern to support our efforts to improve policies and systems that impact maternal mental health across the United States. This internship is ideal for a graduate student in public health, public policy, health economics, or a related field who is interested in health systems, policy analysis, and translating research into actionable policy recommendations.

As an intern, you will work closely with our policy and research team to conduct literature reviews, analyze data, and support the development of policy briefs, issue analyses, and strategic frameworks that inform national and state-level action. We collaborate with interns to co-create meaningful practicum experiences that align with their academic goals while advancing the Policy Center’s mission, ensuring a win-win opportunity for both the student and our organization.

Key Responsibilities Could Include:

Policy & Research Support

  • Conduct literature scans and summarize emerging research related to maternal mental health, Medicaid, and perinatal care systems.
  • Support data collection and organization for reports, briefs, and presentations.
  • Assist in drafting or editing sections of policy briefs, memos, and summaries for internal and external audiences.
  • Other duties as defined

Program & Stakeholder Support

  • Help track and organize information from multi-state policy initiatives and expert working groups.
  • Support the preparation of meeting materials, background documents, and slide decks for partner or stakeholder meetings.
  • Take notes and synthesize key themes and recommendations emerging from policy discussions or convenings.

Knowledge Management

  • Help maintain internal databases of legislation, reports, and research publications.
  • Contribute to identifying best practices and case studies from states leading in maternal mental health policy.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Public Health, Public Policy, Health Administration, Health Economics, Epidemiology, Data Analytics or a related field.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to translate complex data or policy topics into clear, concise summaries.
  • Familiarity with maternal health, behavioral health, or health systems preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace; experience with Excel or data visualization tools a plus.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

The Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health is seeking a Public Health Communications & Design Intern to help translate complex research and policy findings into engaging, accessible, and visually compelling content. This internship is ideal for a creative and mission-driven graduate student who is passionate about public health, data storytelling, and the power of design and social media to drive awareness and action.

As an intern, you will work closely with our communications and policy teams to transform key findings from our reports and issue briefs into infographics, social media campaigns, and short-form blogs that amplify the Policy Center’s thought leadership in maternal mental health policy. Key Responsibilities:

Graphic Design & Visual Storytelling

  • Develop clear, visually engaging infographics and visuals from public health reports, research findings, and data.
  • Create branded templates and graphics for use across web, social media, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with policy and research staff to ensure visual accuracy and consistency with organizational style and tone.

Social Media Development

  • Maintain and execute a social media calendar highlighting the Policy Center’s research, reports, and advocacy priorities.
  • Draft concise, compelling posts and visuals tailored for different platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, etc.).
  • Monitor engagement and analytics to inform future content strategies.

Blog and Content Support

  • Draft short, accessible blogs summarizing findings from key reports or highlighting emerging maternal mental health topics.
  • Identify creative ways to visually summarize and share new data or policy recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Public Health, Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Strong graphic design skills; proficiency in Canva a must.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with an ability to translate complex public health information into engaging content.
  • Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools.
  • Understanding of public health, maternal health, or health policy topics preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
