The hospital best practices for maternal mental health survey was drafted as a means for individual hospitals to survey themselves, or for a community to survey all of its birth hospitals.

Become a Whole Mom Hospital

Hospitals may work toward adopting maternal mental health hospital best practices in the Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health Whole Mom Survey to become a “Whole Mom Hospital.” Hospitals must complete and submit the attestation in the survey by June 30 or November 30 of each year to be recognized as a Whole Mom hospital each year.

Whole Mom Hospital Designations

  • Whole Mom Hospital
    Attested to meeting all of the basic Whole Mom standards.
  • Advanced Whole Mom Hospital
    Attested to meeting all of the basic Whole Mom standards and at least 1 additional advanced standard, which involves treating mothers suffering from a maternal mental health disorder.
  • Preliminary Whole Mom Hospital
    Attested to meeting at least 50% of the basic Whole Mom standards and plans on reassessing to earn the full Whole Mom Hospital designation in 12 months or less.
